Dying Gardenia Bushes

I have had 5 beautiful, healthy gardenia bushes for ten years. They bloom twice a year and are lovely. Suddenly this year I’ve noticed some brown spots andĀ upon closer inspection have realized 4 of 5 bushes have dead spots in them-branches just dead. What could be the reason for this, and is there a way to stop it?

It is possible that the shrubs could simply be suffering from cold damage, as this past winter has been damaging to many plants across the country. You can cut away the brown or dead parts of the plant and within a few weeks, there should be signs of regrowth.
