Dry Looking Lawn

Despite a very wet summer last year, our lawn (which was returfed only a couple of years ago) looks parched as if it has just suffered a hot, dry summer. It appears to have more yellow blades of grass than green, despite the lawn being fed regularly. Our neighbors’ lawns look fine and even the exposed grass by the roadside outside our house looks more green and lush. We are at a loss of what has gone wrong – and what to do to remedy the problem. One thing I have noticed is that the grass on our new lawn has thinner blades than the old lawn and I wonder if it is more sensitive.

There are many diseases and pests that attack turf grass,. and you need to know what the specific problem is so that you can treat it. Fertilizer won’t help. Take samples of grass, roots, and soil to your local Extension Service for analysis. This link will help you locate one: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/extension-search/ [1]
If your lawn was resodded only 2 years ago, and neighbors aren’t having similar problems, a pathogen or pest could have been present in the sod. After you talk to the horticulturist at the Extension Service, you might want to have a conversation with the company the resodded for you.
