Daphne bush that has suffered from a frost

Hello-

We live in Alexandria, VA (zone 8). I have a lovely daphne bush that is about 3 years old and has done beautifully, despite our having a lot of clay in the soil. When we left for a 2 week trip in early Feb.it was starting to form blooms. It got very hot-80 degrees-for one day while we were away. Then there was a first. The leaves have all turned brown and most of then have fallen off. Nevertheless, there are some that are mostly green. There are also still parts of many blooms that still look good. Is this the end of my plant? Is there anything I can do to help it? I am an awful gardener and this was one of my few successful plants! Should I cut it back or leave it alone? I would greatly appreciate your advice!

Thanks very much,
Mary

Unfortunately, these plants have a tendency to do that. They can die all of a sudden without any warning. There is no way to prevent this. This article will give you more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/winter-daphne/daphne-plant-types.htm [1]
