Cut Back A Flingy Red Bristle Philodendron

Hi, I have a philodendron squamiferum that has grown quite flingy after it came to me (1,5 years). The first leaves grew quite nicely from the stem, like seen on pictures. But after coming to my place, they grow at a 10-16 cm distance from each other. Looks otherwise to thrive, except this flingyness. I believe it wants more light (Norwegian winters are dark). I think I need to cut it back to make it more sturdy and bushy, but cutting the thick, twiglike stem worries me. Can I do that? What will happen then? Best regards.
