Crape myrtle dwarf

I have had my crepe myrtles for 3 years now. I have never pruned them and they looked beautiful every year. This year they look almost dead. They have new sprouts out of the base which I’m reading I should prune??? I’m worried I’ll kill my favorite plant! Here is a picture…should I prune them back some or leave them alone??? I love these plants and don’t want to murder them!

It would appear that your tree has died off and is growing back from the roots.
Though it will take some time, it can recover.
Prune away the dead plant material and give it some time.
