Composting

I added moldy bread to my compost. After adding the compost to my vegetable garden, powdery mildew showed up on the squash. Did the bread mold cause the powdery mildew?

No, this did not cause the powdery mildew. It is caused by a fungus and quite common on squash plants. These articles will help:
