Cold Weather Effect on Gardenia

The recent cold experienced in the Houston area has caused brown leaves on our Gardenia. Can we prune it back now, and if so, how much can be pruned? If not now, do we wait until summer is over?

I would wait until spring to cut back the plant. It will help protect the new growth, just in case another freeze occurs. Just to let you know, the cold has probably destroyed the blooms for this year, so even if you wait until fall to prune, the plant will probably not bloom this year.
