Climbing hydrangeas

I have had two in pots for 15 years and they have died so I cut them down but one was to high for me to pull the top down , it is not connected to anything but it is growing onthe top of the wall and has flowers on it , How can that happen ?

The size of your vine was amazing! The diameter of the branches will actually sustain the smaller growth for some time, it will slowly decline.
