Chive Removal

I have chives growing all through my hosta/flower garden. I have used roundup and it seems to be mother’s milk to them. I have weed whipped them off repeatedly, burned them numerous times with a torch, covered them with a barrier and mulched over them. Nothing has worked and now with spring weather they are coming up all over. Short of radiation is there anything I can do to get rid of them once and for all? Thanks,

You may need to resort to digging them up. Be sure to get all of the bulb. Chemical use has limited effectiveness because of the waxy coating on chives. Plus, yours are in an ornamental bed, where it is harder to use chemicals.

When your desired clump of chives bloom, be sure to cut off the faded blooms so they don't go to seed.
