Can You Leave Sweet Pea In Over The Winter?

I’m wondering if the sweet pea needs to come out or just trimmed back for the winter?

Kilmarknock, Virginia is listed as zone 7a. Sweetpea bushes will only be winter hardy in USDA zones 9 and up. Digging them up will be necessary for survival in the winter.
