Can I Replant My 2 Ft Papaya Plant If The Bottom Has Rotted Out?

The bottom stalk piece of the plant got mushy and rotten. I cut that piece off but now can I repot it rite away or should I wait for it to dry out before replanting it?

Unfortunately it can't be saved. You will need to start over.
