Camilla hedges

On moving house have inherited two very old unkept camilla hedges I would like to keep them but they need pruning all the way across top of them but 12/18 inches at least as too high. I know cannot do this until they stop flowering but will the hedges survive

They look like they have already been pruned for the year. I would not do any further pruning until spring of next year. This article will give you more information on this plant: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/camellia/caring-for-camellias.htm [1]
