Brown Leaves on My Eucalyptus Tree

We have a 30 foot eucalyptus tree in our garden, which was there when we moved in 9 years ago. I cut it back 2 months ago, taking about 15 foot from the top (so it is now 30 foot). I did this with a handsaw and the cuts are a little rough in places. I noticed that we have some brown leaves now, not all but just some. Have I damaged the tree? What can I do about it? What should I do when I cut back in the future? Many thanks. I love this tree and would hate to lose it.

Topping a tree is always hard on a tree. It could well be that the tree is in a bit of shock and trying to recover. If this is the case, all you can do is give the tree some extra TLC, such as extra water and fertilizer.

It could also be a fungus. There are several that can cause this kind of damage, but almost all can be treated with a fungicide. Go ahead and treat the tree with a fungicide as it will not hurt the tree and is a good precaution. I personally like neem oil as it treats both possible fungus and pest problems plus is people and pet safe.
