bottomless planter box

wit a bottomless planter box what should I line the ground with i.e. gravel, landscape fabric?

In most cases the garden beds can be placed directly unto the ground. Removing weeds or grass can be done prior. Landscape cloth is not recommend and if you have issues with rodents or digging animals you can line the bed with metal hardware cloth.
