Boston Ivy on Cast Iron Fence

I’m looking to plant some vines for privacy along my black cast iron fence. It’s a typical 6′-0″ tall fence with the verticals spaced about 4″ apart. It only has horizontal rails at the top and and bottom. I’m wondering if Boston ivy would provide full privacy since its tendrils can only go vertical? Will the leaves grow to cover the gap? Thoughts?

Boston Ivy would certainly be able to be trained to grow unto your fence. It may take some work to help the plant get started attaching to the fence with plant ties.
