black lesions on Bismark palm trunk about 1/4 from the ground

My Bismark has a large black lesion on its trunk and several smaller ones dotted around the circumference. What could be the problem? How to treat it? If no treatment, will it kill the palm?
Thanks.

This could be some type of rot or fungus and needs to be analyzed by your local cooperative extension service to determine the best corrective action.
