Best Plants For Privacy

Our home backs up to an area that is visually unattractive. We want to plant bushes or trees that will grow to hide this area from our view. We live in central Alabama and would like something that is evergreen, is easy to maintain and would possibly add some color to our landscaping. We love Oleander, but it is toxic, so we had to eliminate that. Any suggestions?
