Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHello we have a beech hedge in the garden that we planted 5 years ago. One of the trees has done poorly this season, a few branches have proper leaves, many of the others tried to leaf but the leaves remained small the rest stayed as buds. All the others along the line have done great! Any ideas what could have happened?

That soil looks VERY saturated. Wet soils bring about disease and root suffocation.
It may be that your others have not, yet, contracted the disease. You can be sure that they will follow suit, soon.
I would treat the area with a fungicide, and make sure that they do not get too much water, if you can keep from it.
