Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI know of a huge fig tree that always has lots of fruit, but for years they haven’t used it because it was said to be poisonous. Is it true or a myth? All the fruit is wasted every year because of that reason. Thank you.

The fig fruit is not poisonous; people having been eating the fruit of the fig tree for thousands of years. The white milky sap produced by the branches and leaves when they are broken is irritating to the skin of some people, which is the main reason fig (or ficus, the genus name) is found on some “poisonous” lists. Not all fig fruit tastes good, however. Maybe that’s why somebody thought it was poisonous.
