Are the Junipers next door killing my newly planted Cherry Laurels?

Along my fence line my neighbor has giant junipers that I do not want to see. In an effort to camouflage them, I planted a row of Laurels. Four have died and the ones that remain looks sickly. We have replanted the ones that died and they died again. Could the juniper roots be killing my laurels? We have reliable water and take excellent care of our yard, so I’m thinking the Junipers are to blame…

Junipers can send out lateral roots 100 feet or more. They can draw moisture from the soil, robbing other plantings.
In this case they also may be shading your plantings, robbing them of full sun.

You can start with a soil test to determine if you have nutrient issues. Your County Extension Office can help you with this.
