Ants in Soil of Potted Plants

My potted plants on lanai are infested with ants and my plants are dying. I don’t want to use pesticides. Is there any home remedy that is effective? My Hibiscus is almost dead! I also have some kinda of flying gnats around my indoor plants. Any suggestions on how to get rid of those?
