About my lawn and grass

I have had a beautiful grass in my yard but now a moss or fungus has taken over a lot of my yard and is still spreading. What can I do about it and what is it? Have you heard of this from others? It is in sun and shade but started in the shade it seems. What can be done about it? I have tried liming it but that failed. Help please!
