A volunteer plant in my garden SEEMS to be a pear tomato. Is there any chance it’s a different, poisonous plant?

It does look like a pear tomato, but like you, I would be worried about poisonous tomato lookalikes in the nightshade family.

I wouldn't eat anything I didn't grow myself, but you might want to get an opinion from the local Extension office. Here is how to find them:
