Fruitless Mulberry Knuckles

My 25 year old Fruitless Mulberry trees have got huge knuckles from getting pruned (shaped) or cut back every other year. I’m afraid the’ye getting too heavy for the trunk. Should the knuckles be cut off when it’s trimmed?

Prune all but the straightest of the small branches emerging from the knuckles, leaving about 4 inches above the knuckles themselves. These straight branches should line up with the largest part of the branch below the knuckle. As they gradually thicken and grow, the knobby joints will become less noticeable.
