Crepe myrtle

Is it ok to cut a crepe below the knuckle of the tree, and will it grow out as it did in the past?

Generally, they are cut just above the knuckles. Prune all but the straightest of the small branches emerging from the knuckles, leaving about 4 inches above the knuckles themselves. These straight branches should line up with the largest part of the branch below the knuckle. As they gradually thicken and grow, the knobby joints will become less noticeable.
