18 Year Old Schefflera Is Dropping a Branch a Day Now

I have had this plant forever. It has indirect light, a large enough pot, is watered properly, and I spray for mites occasionally.
Past few weeks it has dropped a whole green, healthy looking branch a day. I am going to change the soil tomorrow. Any advice

It sounds like it could be a fungus. Are you seeing spots on the leaves? They would be yellow or brown. Regardless, I would try treating the plant with a fungicide.
