What Type of Sprinkler Is Safe to Use on Newly Planted Grass Seed?

Hi, we live in zone 6b and just finished our spring cleanup over the weekend. We know grass seed must be kept moist and handled with care for next 2-4 weeks and are wondering what type of sprinkler would best.

Also, annual bluegrass is sprouting all throughout the lawn – we heard that Weed-be-gon is not effective for it, and are reluctant to use Round-up due to the new grass seed. We are removing small, new clumps by hand when we see them, but what can we use on larger clumps before they drop their seeds?

Most sprinklers will be fine. Just make sure the water is evenly and gently applied. Really, the only thing you need to avoid is a jet of water.

As long as the new seed is growing, there is no chemical you can really apply to eliminate the annual bluegrass. But, you can use boiling water. Boiling water will instantly kill any plant in comes in contact with and leaves the soil un-contaminated.
