Zoysia Grass in Gardens

Our Zoysia grass is growing into one of our gardens. We spent all weekend digging down 4 inches or more and removing this grass 5′ into our garden. It overtook the vinca vine growing there. Now that we are down to bare earth in the front part of the garden, how do we prevent this from happening again? What type of brick/stone border do we need to put between the grassline and the garden, and how deep? Because this garden is our bird garden, we cannot spray with Round-Up, etc.

Unfortunately, zoysia grass is very invasive. It will need to be hand pulled or you will need to use Round-Up on the grass in the beds.

I would recommend regular edging with an edger or shovel, twice a year. Once in the spring and once in fall. This will help with cutting the runners that get into the beds.
