Q.Yucca-root soil

Zone 91978 | Molly Jarrell added on July 2, 2017 | Answered

I had a tree service remove a large yucca plant and we want to grow a citrus in the empty spot. The yucca seems yo have left behind soil that feels almost like felt – very fibrous and woven. I’m guessing its either roots or decaying root matter. Do we need to remove the soil and replace before planting the tree?

I would try to get as much of those old roots out as possible, to prevent new yuccas from popping up later and give the new tree a better chance to establish. This article explains just how hard yucca is to eradicate
