Q.Yucca Pups Causing Parent to Die

Anonymous added on September 4, 2011 | Answered

I have an outdoor yucca, which has grown to about 3. 5-4 meters tall. I’ve noticed what look like pups growing at various sites up the trunk, rather than out of the parent’s root. At the same time, the top of the tree is losing leaves. One branch has lost all of its leaves. I was wondering whether the two things are related and that the growth of pups is causing the established leaf growing sites on the tree to die off. Should I remove the pups? If I do, will can the rest of the tree recover? Will I be able to plant the pups (they won’t have roots as they are growing out of the trunk)? Please help.
