It’s possible that the plant suffered from some cold damage and removing the damaged growth is a good idea. These are fairly tough plants, however, so with some TLC, it should recover. Another possibility could be a fungus. Treat the plant with fungicide. I like to use neem oil myself as it is safe for people and pets and also will address any pest issues the plant may have. Here is more information on it:
