Yucca Plant Propagation

With the yucca plant, your website says strip all but a few leaves and then let it dry out. So, I don’t want to place the cut end (or the broken end) in water to encourage root growth? I know with many species that’s the plan (like the potato plant). I ask because this seems backwards to me. Don’t the roots want to grow before it goes in soil? Is there any particular type of soil it needs? What about root growth hormone, like for the jade plant?

With plants like yuccas, too much water will kill them so it will not be happy if you try to root it in water first. With plants that have low water needs, they will root better in soil. You can use a rooting hormone, if you would like. A fast draining soil, like a cactus mix works best for rooting yuccas.
