Yucca plant McDougle – protection against freezing temperature

I have seen that freezing temperature could kill/damage outdoor McDougles:

1) Is that true?

2) If true, how to protect against freeze?

I have always placed a bed sheet over my yuccas that are suseptible to frost.. But for the most part they are pretty hardy in zones 5-9.
