You Say Roses Need 6-8 Hours Of Sun. Is That The Same In Scottsdale Arizona?

I live in Scottsdale Arizona and just wondering where to plant a rose bush without it getting burned up.

The 6 to 8 hours of sunshine is true of most roses. The thing with many places in Arizona is that you have little trouble finding it. The intense heat is the big problem. Even here in Colorado where I live we have some pretty intense sun in the summer. I have purchased some big white of light colored umbrella's that I fasten to some wood or metal rods. I place them where they will provide some shade for the rose bushes in the most intense sun and heat parts of the day. Yet still allow them to get the sunshine they need. The umbrellas are the hand held type not the picnic table type. But if you have a large area perhaps the picnic table type is warranted. I say light or white colored umbrellas because Radiant Heat can be a problem as well. Dark colored umbrellas pack a real punch of radiant heat conveyance. You can use other things to provide the shade needed, just be sure they are light colored or paint them white. Keep any eye on the soils moisture too. I use a moisture meter and check the soils moisture often in three places around the rosebushes. That gives me a good idea just how dry or damp the overall soils around the roses is.

Yes, this will be the same, no matter the location.

The caveat, here, will be the time of day that it receives those 6-8 hours. Since you are in an area that will be quite intense for your roses, you will want those hours to be during the morning, or early afternoon.
