Yellow Leaves on Gardenia Bushes

I’ve noticed that just recently the leaves on my gardenia bushes are more yellow and falling off. I’m wondering if I’m watering them too much. I have an automatic irrigation system. I have it running three days a week, at 40 minutes each time. I think the frequency is fine but perhaps the duration of 40 minutes is too much. Should I cut this in half to 20 minutes each time?

Gardenias are notorious for yellow leaves and they are caused by many things. One of the most common is overwatering, so unless the soil is dry, I would hold off on the watering. This article has a few suggestions on what else could be causing the yellowing: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/helping-a-gardenia-bush-with-yellow-leaves.htm [1]
