Q.Yellow and Wilting Pumpkin Vines

Zone 48088 | bettyboop9 added on July 18, 2012 | Answered

Planted pie pumpkins near zucchini plants. Zucchini have been invaded by squash borer. Pumpkin leaves are turning yellow and wilting. There are approx. 12 pie pumpkins on the vines. Do I leave them in the garden on the vines or remove? Will they continue to ripen if removed? First time growing the pie pumpkins.

The pumpkin may have been attacked by the borers as well. Yes, they will ripen off the vine. Here's an article that may be helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/pumpkin/getting-green-pumpkins-to-turn-orange-after-the-pumpkin-vine-dies.htm

For help with the borers, this article has additional information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/squash/squash-pests-identifying-and-preventing-squash-vine-borer.htm
