Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comWe have moved to Devon and are doing the garden (Slowly). I have noticed that there are very few worms and almost no other beasties, millipedes, centipedes, woodlice, earwigs etc. which we had loads of in Cheshire. The ground is very compacted and solid and I am digging it over, and adding manure and other rotted material such as leaves, which we have bagged each year, and allowed to rot down. I am trying to enrich the soil with organic matter, but considering the low (or none-existent) starting point we have for bugs, I wondered if there were any suppliers that you know of? I have found worm supplies but that’s all. Do I just keep putting the compost in and hope the bugs turn up?

If you keep building the soil, they will come naturally. There will be no need to add any, but adding worms will not hurt one bit. Just make sure to till in any organic matter to make it easier for them to navigate.
As for a supplier… We do not recommend places to purchase anything. If you cannot find any local sources, you will have to order online, which can get pricey when buying live creatures.
