Worms

I have dug up a a garden in my back-yard which is literally filled to the brim with huge earthworms but some of them are have white goo inside and it is being excreted in the garden. It is thick and bright white. If accidentally cut this is what oozes out also. Is this normal and is the garden safe to use? Trying to get as close to organic as I can in built up area.
Thanks
Jolene

Many worms will excrete “coelomic fluid” when they feel threatened, or when they are stressed by being too dry. The fluid can be yellow or white in different species. It is normal, although could be a sign that the worms are stressed.
