Wisteria/Why No Flowers?

My son bought the vine approximately 5 years ago with flowers, but it never bloomed again after that. It is near a tree, but not under. It is out in the open. I have not really pruned it. Would that be some of the problem? It is a Japanese wisteria. I live in Pittsburgh.
