Wisteria Blooming

I have one (1) wisteria that I’ve had for several years but has never bloomed. The foliage does great but no blooms. I’ve heard that you have to have two plants to make them bloom. Is it true? Also, I’ve read on your website that if the plant was started from seed, it may never bloom. I’ve also read that the best way to propagate is from starting it from a growth like you do hydrangeas. If I start one that way from a plant that has never bloomed, will the new one ever bloom since parent plant never did?

There are several reasons for a wisteria not blooming, but the most common is too much nitrogen. I would recommend trying root pruning to see if that will jump start it. This article can give you some other ideas too:

You can try taking a cutting, but if it truly a plant grown from seed, the cutting will not bloom either. That being said, unless you were the one who grew it from seed, it is highly unlikely that it was grown from seed. All commercially sold wisteria is grown from cuttings.
