Wisteria

My gardener came to prune all my grasses, bushes and wisteria. All went great until I found him pruning my wisteria. He cut all my 4-yr growth off the copper trellis down to the ground! I have 4 branches at the base with about 3-4 feet sticking out of the ground. I nearly fainted. What can I expect come spring? Will I have lots of shoots off the branch so I can retrain it up the trellis? If I have a lot of shoots, should I just save a few to grow and wrap up the trellis? I most likely won’t have any blossoms for a long time. What should I do? I fired the gardener…

Wisteria can take pretty severe pruning, so it should be ok. As a matter of fact, one of the biggest complaints about wisteria is that it is so hard to get rid of. Yours should be fine, though like you said it may take longer for blooms to come back.
