Does wisteria growing on trees kill the tree?

If you are talking about an out-of-control chinese wisteria, I'd have concerns. The weight alone is enough to cause smaller limbs to break. Vines whose leaves cover a tree's leaves cause death to that limb since sunlight isn't reaching its leaves.
