Winterizing Gardenias

Please let me know how to protect my gardenia bushes in the winter. They are planted outside in Virginia. Last year, I didn’t do a thing and they turned very dark brown. I knew there was still hope for them because when I tried to snap off a branch, it didn’t break off easily. They finally came around about July.

Mulching and wrapping the plant in the winter will help protect against the cold.
