winterizing climatis

I have successfully winterized a climatis in a pot in my garage. Question – When I put it back out on the patio should I cut back the light green growth that has already sprouted?

Clematis plants bloom on old wood (prior years’ growth), new wood (current year’s growth) or a mix of the two – depending upon variety. It would be helpful if you knew the variety you have.

In the absence of info about cultivar, no, I wouldn’t recommend trimming off new growth.
