wintering amaryllis bulbs once dried out in the pot in a cool dark area (50 degrees)

I grow my amaryllis bulbs indoors, usually I remove the soil once dried then store in a dark area with the temperature at 50 degrees. I am wondering if the bulb can remain in the pot? They plants have not been watered for over a month, the leaves are fading in colour from emerald to very pale green so I am wondering if I can cut the leaves to about 1 1/2 inches above the top of the bulb
