wintering a potted fig placed on a rolling cart for ease of motion

You mentioned putting the heavy fig pots on a rolling cart. I did this two winters ago, rolled the 3 pots into the unheated garage (upstate NY) where for the past 10 years, they survived the winter temps). That year they did not survive. The rolling cart maintained the pots 4 inches above the cement garage floor instead of sitting directly on the floor. In spring the green buds, trying SO hard to poke out, were hard as rocks, and never grew. I lost an entire pot of trees, the others had to have a severe pruning of the dead wood. What remained had no fruit last year. I learned I must not put the pots on a rolling cart. The pots have to touch the cement floor apparently for the ‘heat of the earth’ to affect them to keep them alive in the unheated garage. Please mention this on your website, so others in northern climates like mine do not make the same mistake. Last winter, I pushed/shoved the heavy pots into the garage to sit directly on the cement floor, they endured 2 weeks of 0 degree temps, and they still have beautiful leaves popping out this April when I pushed/shoved them outdoors to my driveway. I reviewed our articles on winter care of Fig Trees and have not found the information that you mention.
Wonderful that you have found your technique for wintering in your climate.
