Winter Survival For Outdoor Potted Perennials

Hello – I have several potted perennials that I’m hoping to keep through the long Minnesota winter; is there any way I can help them survive outdoors? I would bring them inside, but my cat would definitely eat them (some of the plants are toxic to pets). I’d appreciate any advice I can get. Thank you!

Of course, a garage or basement would be best, but if you need to leave them outside, you can mulch them heavily and wrap them with burlap or some other insulating material, or sink the pots into the ground and cover with a deep layer of mulch. This article will help:
