Q.Winter storage of begonias

Zone 43420-9182 | Anonymous added on October 18, 2018 | Answered

Am I able to store begonias over winter? I would like to cut the stems off and save the roots to replant next spring. Is that possible and how long can they be stored and what conditions should I store them in.

There are 2 types of begonia, wax and tuberous. The more common one is tuberous begonia which can be lifted and grown as a houseplant over winter. Otherwise, it is prepared and stored by northern gardeners much like gladiolus and dahlia. Attached is an article on how to do this. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/begonia/wintering-begonias-overwintering-a-begonia-in-cold-climates.htm
