Wine grapes are grown at high elevations in many areas, with some grape growing regions ranging in elevation from 4000 to 7000 feet. Temperature is thought to be the most notable feature of high elevation grape growing. Higher altitudes bring about cooler temperatures and higher solar radiation, which facilitates photosynthesis and ripening. However, grapes grown in higher elevations require more shading than at lower altitudes.
