My orchids are in trees or beneath trees. While we had a dog there was no problem with orchids.

Do you really want to spray your orchid foliage with garlic spray? Spraying around them may help. There is another garlic recipe below plus you can buy it ready made. Opossums shouldn't be interested in your orchids. They prefer insects, small reptiles, amphibians, rodents, vegetables and fruits. They also will eat leftover bird seed and pet food if it is left outside, so be sure to remove those so as not to attract possums to your yard.
It is possible they could dig up the orchids if they are digging in the ground for grubs or insects. If that is the case, you can erect a fence around the trees or spray the area with predator urine. Of course, while they are in the tree, they may bother the orchids, but that is not their preferred food.
